Retratos Ausentes

A series of self-portraits taken in museum bathrooms, where the artist erases himself from the reflection, leaving the mirror image without a reflection.

Retratos Ausentes is a photographic series built from self-portraits captured in the bathrooms of museums. Yet the core gesture of the work lies in removing the artist’s presence from the mirror’s reflection, leaving behind a surface that — by convention — should reveal a body, now empty.

The result is an image that refuses the mirror’s expected function: it does not reflect, it does not return the gaze. The self-portrait becomes absence — a deliberately erased trace, a quiet inquiry into visibility and identity within the institutional spaces of art.
