El momento más obscuro de la Noche
In collaboration with Tania Ximena
The community of Esquipulas Guayabal returns to reunite with the volcano that, thirty-three years earlier, buried it under ash and fire. That night, when the sky lost the sun’s light, was remembered as the end of the world. Now, with new settlers arriving, comes Trinidad —a young poet and grandson of one of the victims of the eruption— who carries within him the memory and silenced voices of his ancestors.
The village must confront a group of inhabitants who had occupied the land during their absence. This conflict is interwoven with Trinidad’s poetic narration, which simultaneously reinterprets the cosmogony of the Zoque culture, rebuilding a spiritual bond with the mountain.
An unsettling presence stirs within the community: the settlement begins to grow once again upon the living mountain. The crater breathes, and in the depths of the crater lake something is transforming. Between memory, myth, and the present, a new relationship with the Chichonal volcano emerges, turning it into both witness and protagonist of life’s continuity.
